Post contributed by Carl Wright, EVP and General Manager – my first microblog entry.
Well there it is. Last week right as the RSA conference in San Francisco was coming to an end, I heard that TrapX Security was designated as a Gartner® Cool Vendor in Security Intelligence for 2015. Way to go! Pretty awesome. I have my copy of the report proudly in hand. A big day for TrapX!
Under key findings, the report notes that, “Deceptive security technologies provide a refreshing and complementary approach to enterprise security. They point to an increasing interest by CISOs to apply commercial approaches to deceiving and trapping hackers by presenting false information on files, applications and other system information. The need to pinpoint abnormal attack activities across internal networks more precisely is driving intelligence options in the market. CISOs have had to more readily accept that breaches will occur, but they have had limited visibility of post-breach traffic that traverses horizontally across networks.”
Further, under recommendations, the Gartner report further states that:
“CISOs and other security decision makers should:
- Implement user behavior analytics in order to reduce alert volume and prioritize alerts, increase investigation efficiency, and find the ‘bad guys.’
- Invest in deception technologies as an entirely complementary approach to rapidly detecting data breaches and attacks — and preventing them from doing further damage.
- Adopt new technologies that spot suspicious, anomalous internal network activity, reduce monitoring noise, and alert security teams of infiltration with a high degree of certainty.”
The Cool Vendor document may be found by searching the Gartner site for document G00275655, Cool Vendors in Security Intelligence, dated 24 April, 2015. The document is licensed by Gartner and was authored by several analysts although the specific analysis of TrapX was done by Craig Lawson, Lawrence Pingree and Oliver Rochford. Our press release and other material when approved by Gartner is on the way!
