The Cisco Midyear Cybersecurity Report (MCR) has a ten year history, describing the increasingly sophisticated threats and techniques used by attackers in pursuit of their goals. An unprecedented step for the most recent MCR from Cisco is the inclusion of external technology partner content detailing specific findings in the customer and partner landscape. TrapX is thrilled to be included.
The step to include third party content underlines Cisco’s belief in the wider security ecosystem, and reinforces something that all organizations with an advanced security maturity understand; that improved detection and protection is best delivered using products to leverage each other. TrapX, for example, seeks wherever possible to ensure that customers are best maximizing the value of their security investments by using them together. This drives strategic value from the entire investment portfolio.
In the report, TrapX’s experience in the IoT / OT threat landscape was brought to the forefront, and we were delighted to share our findings around the MedJack report. MedJack began life as a threat report from TrapX describing threat trends in hospital networks and became an industry term to describe issues affecting the wider healthcare industry. TrapX published a case study describing how deception technology was able to detect threats in medical devices that would be categorized as ‘life-saving’, and which cannot be protected by classical security solutions like endpoint solutions because of the compliance and accreditation challenges. As a result, we discovered that distributing decoys camouflaged as medical devices and IT assets on top of hospital and healthcare networks could lure and deceive the threat actors from attacking the real assets and betray their position on the network. Deception technology brought visibility and high fidelity alerts to these historically difficult environments.
Now, with our Cisco partnership, TrapX offer the ability to detect and block advanced threats using Deception technology. This means that regardless of the environment you operate in, we can help your organisation avoid threats from ransomware, human attackers and spreadable malware.
